The Role of Your BDS Representative

What is the Baha'i Distribution Service?

The Baha'i Distribution Service is a distribution arm of the Baha'i Publishing Trust.

"Bahá’í Distribution Service exists to provide the broadest possible range of Bahá’í literature and related materials to support you, your family and society at large in the spiritual search for truth and the activities of community building.

"Bahá'í Distribution Service provides the most comprehensive selection of Bahá'í titles in the world, with over 2,000 Bahá'í books, CDs and related materials, representing the efforts of hundreds of publishers, authors and artists from around the globe."

What is the function of the Raleigh Baha'i Distribution Service Representative, i.e. the mandate given by the Local Spiritual Assembly to the BDS Rep?

Is the Raleigh Baha'i Distribution Service Representative an elected or appointed position, and what is the term of service?

The BDS Rep is a Local Spiritual Assembly Committee appointment, made annually.

Is this a one-person committee appointment or does the community have several BDS reps?

For the 2005/6 year, there is only one person appointed to this Committee, though there may be assistant(s) who have agreed to help with literature selections for non-English titles and/or other specialty needs.

How can I assist the BDS Rep in helping to build a bigger community offline bookstore?

One basic way would be to purchase all of your BDS titles through your local BDS rep. Another way to generate interest in book titles is to write a brief review of a book that you have personally read and share that review with others by sending it in to your BDS Rep. This review may be featured on this website for other community members to see. Or simply recommend a title to someone that you think might be interested. As the offline bookstore grows, there will also be a need for assistants to mann the Center's bookstore during special events or after scheduled devotional meetings.

What goals have the Rep set for this Baha'i year?

The overall goal is to place more literature into the hands of the friends with the intent of deepening their knowledge of the teachings and basic principles, laws and ordinances of the Faith through the selection and dissemination of various types of literature. This should assist the friends in their efforts to communicate more effectively the pure Writings as they seek to inform and share these Teachings and Holy Writings with their friends, family, seekers and others.

How can I give feedback to the Rep on services I would like to see that will enhance the dissemination of literature throughout the local Baha'i community?
